Campfires for Christ was organized in 1975 in its first youth camp entitled “Duty to God Course ‘75” held at BSP Headquarters in Imus Pilot Elementary School, Imus, Cavite Philippines.  Pat Paul J. Amargo spearheaded its organization together with the group of young people from various church denominations in the province of Cavite.

They named their group as Jesus Persons Rapelling Society (a contemporary of then famous singing group Apo Hiking Society).  The group, primarily composed of young people, with background in scouting and outdoor skills, continued to meet and pray together, planned and conducted various activities that propagated the Gospel, transformed lives and provided venue for fellowship and Christian growth.

Since then, regular training and camping were held twice or more a year in various locations in the province of Cavite, such as Philippine Christian University in Dasmarinas  and Don Severino Agricultural College (now Cavite State University) in Indang.  While the organization was evolving, the group changed their name to Cavite for Christ. Then until the year 1983 it was registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission under the name Campfires for Christ, Inc.(CfC)

In 1987, due to migration of most of the leaders of the group to United States, camping activities stopped, but the remaining members of the group in the Philippines continued its mission and conducted inter church program such as sports, prayer rallies, and fellowships.  The group in the United States formed Campfires for Christ, USA with one of its purposes is to support the ministry of Campfires for Christ in the Philippines.

In December 1992, CfC once again held camping at Barangay Paliparan, Dasmarinas.  In the ensuing year, CfC hired full time staff.  Also, a half hectare lot in Paliparan, Dasmarinas City to be used as campsite was leased to CfC, and fund for building construction was donated as well by a generous couple, Isidro and Chaling Amargo.  From 1993 to 2010, more than a thousand campers experienced transformed lives in this campsite.

In 1996, CfC began its outreach to Zambales and Mindoro, and in 1998 to Cagayan de Oro City.  In year 2000, CfC reached Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.  This effort proceeded to establishment of five outposts, namely Cavite, Zambales, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga del Norte, and Cebu.  These outposts reached out to other various provinces and conducted camping and outdoor activities, leading to the birth of another outpost in Zamboanga del Sur.

Beginning the year 2005, CfC conducts annual leaders conference to encourage one another and to present the outcome of camping activities during that year and draw plans for the next year’s camps.  In 2010, the first jamboree was held in Cagayan de Oro City, celebrating the 35^th anniversary of Campfires for Christ.  In an annual conference held in Camiguin Island, it was declared that CfC, Philippines will be called Campfires for Christ, Asia, with the renewed effort of establishing networks outside the Philippines.
