March 29-31

Youth Camp ( Ate Rejoice and Ptr. Jay-R Caliao)

DAY 1

Lights off @ 10:00pm

DAY 2

At masayang kumain pagkatapos.

Nag fellowship muna bago nag BS 3: Keep Faith.

10:30pm lights off nah!!

DAY 3

IGC Tipolohon, Camaman-an CdeO

December 26-29

Day 1: Obstacle-Overcomer

The much awaited day for the new batch of trainees and for the staffs had started. The staffs, who were earlier to arrive than the trainees, busied themselves. They cleaned the surrounding and made it safe and beautiful. Bunch by bunch, trainees were arriving. Some were from Villanueva, others from Pagadian and from Cebu.

After lunch, Tawag 2005 Leadership Training Camp was opened. Trainees were oriented and flocked in 3 groups – Moses, Samuel and Gideon. They were also assigned to their tents. And they showed their artistic abilities which were impressive, when they made their flags. They truly have alert and bright minds also when they composed their flock cheer and yell.

Trust walk. It was an exhausting activity. They passed through a tunnel. It was really a greater leap of faith. They had no idea where they were heading and what they were going through. Then, they had their Bible study. And after that, they were gathered at the session hall for a lecture on Christian Camping.

Dinner time. Kitchen utensils were distributed. Right after dinner, they prepared for the night’s fellowship. Though exhausted, they all have accomplished every activity of the day. Then, we ended the day with a prayer t at the family circle. Then, everyone slept soundly.

Day 2: Responsibility Facer

The day started early. In fact, it was still dark when Ate Naisy whistled for assemble. Some were still sleeping and panicked upon hearing the whistle. Others have taken a bath already while others had just woke up.  We started the day with a devotional. It was about how God chose Gideon to be a leader. God indeed does not look at the outward appearance in choosing a leader.

Then, everything went on. Stretching was followed by a lecture on camp crafts, knot tying and lashing. After few minutes, an obstacle was set up. It was the application of the lecture. The last part was quite a  difficult task – the firebuilding. Nevertheless, a flock emerged victorious. Then to set the trainees’ mind for several, quite long lectures, few Biblical trivia were given.

Kuya Dhodz, Ate Eva and Ate Gangging discussed Camp Philosophies, Common Terms and Traditions, Budgeting and Planning. There were also ice breakers in between the lectures. Then, they applied the things they learned as they were given the task of making their own camp planning and budgeting for their own desired camp. And that’s a big challenge. They had to make their own theme, camp song and program. They’re indeed responsible. While others were cooking their dinner, the other members talked about their task. After few minutes of deliberation, they decided to put it into writing.

Pastor Asequia, a visiting pastor, shared God’s Word during the night service. It was all about leadership; that leaders undergo a process. After the night’s fellowship, we ended the night at the family circle. Ate Naisy recapped the activities and Ate Eva closed it with a prayer. Before sleeping, the trainees had a flock prayer.

Day 3: Challenge Taker

It was a chilly morning. But still, the trainees and staffs were able to woke up early and refreshed themselves

Labaw Sa Tanan ’05: Kang Kristo Sikat!!

Trento, Agusan del Sur

April 26-29, 2005

Camp Verse:

1 Peter 5:5-6

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder, ye all of you be subject one to another and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the Mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time.

PRECAMP (April 25)

The staffs of Campfires for Christ-Cagayan de Oro outpost arrived safely after lunch at the campsite. They looked excited, a bit tired from the long travel but seemed to have a spirit of expectancy of what and how God will work or move in the camp.

Later, after taking their snacks and a little afternoon rest, the team gathered for a meeting. Then, they assembled the tents. After taking dinner, everybody went to sleep.

Day 1 (April 26)

HOW TO BECOME FAMOUS: Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. – Matt. 18:4

Today is the start of the camp. The team woke up early to prepare themselves. After breakfast, we started to do the task assigned to us. Hours later, delegates from different churches arrived for registration.

After lunch, orientation started. The campers were grouped into three and were assigned to their tents. Each group prepared their flags and printed their flock name with a logo or drawing that describe or represent their flock name. They also prepared their flock cheer and then they had their Bible study. Later, the campers were blindfolded and the obstacle started. Nobody was hurt. After a short rest, each flock cooked and prepared their food for dinner.

Then after dinner, the service started and was followed by the camp fire and flock prayer. Then everybody went to their respective tent for a goodnight sleep.

Day 2 (April 27)

HOLD ON YOUR WILL: Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him. –Ps. 37:5

This is the second day of the camp. Everybody woke up at exactly 4:30 in the morning. When everybody was finished taking a bath and preparing themselves for this day’s activities, we started with our devotional and was followed with the stretching. Then the grub masters of every flock were called by the SCL to get their supply for their breakfast. After breakfast, the fellowship started then followed by an obstacle using Semaphore. Next, they were given a time to rest and a time also to practice their cheer.

Hours later, campers were busy in cooking and preparing for their lunch. Kuya Dhodz then led some games to awaken the campers from some hours of rest. After that, they had their Bible study which was also followed with the tiresome Time-pressured obstacle course. Then they had their time to reflect about the things they learned from the obstacle. Afterwards, each group prepared and cooked for their dinner.

After dinner, the evening service started and was followed by the camp fire and flock prayer. Then everybody went to their respective tents and had a restful sleep.

Day 3 (April 28)

BE OBEDIENT: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord not for men. – Col. 3:23

It’s already 5 in the morning when all the campers and staffs woke up. This is the third day of the camp. Everyone was busy taking a bath and preparing themselves for this day’s activities. I’m sure all campers were excited for the hiking. A prayer was said before the hiking started. Madasigon flock was the first to left the campsite followed by the Mapainubsanon flock and last was the Maandamon flock. An advance team from the staffs went to the hiking area first. The other staffs went along the flocks, giving trails and instructions for them. It was a reasonable experience. Although it was very much tiresome, but the dominant feeling among us all were satisfaction and joy. Several campers were complaining about the distance we have traversed and the thirst they endured. When we arrived at the area, everyone was wearing a smile in their face, implicating the joy of success from the long trip. After that, the campers had their Bible study together with their counselor. The staffs initiated the rappelling. Ate Chereth was the first to go down followed by Ate Ira, Ate Grace, Kuya Gelvic and Kuya Tata. While the campers were having their Bible study, some of the staffs were having so much fun catching shrimps in the river. Kuya Dhodz, Kuya Gelvic, Kuya Cheb, Kuya Ernie, Kuya Tata, Ptr. Yoyong, Ate Lynn, Ate Chereth and Mr. Driver were all enjoying that moment.

After lunch, the campers tried to decipher Cheb’s message using the Semaphore. Hours later, rappelling started. Maandamon was the first flock to rappel followed by Madasigon and then Mapainubsanon flock. Some campers were afraid to rappel while others wanted to try it again and again.

When we arrived at the campsite, campers started to prepare their presentation for the evening – the FUN NIGHT! After a short rest, each flock prepared and cooked their dinner. Then, the service started after the dinner. It was then followed with the flock presentation. The staff also presented their rap. The night was ended around the camp fire. Flock prayer followed. After that, everyone busied themselves making their Letter to Jesus, Colors and preparing a gift for their Pag-asa. When they finished, they went to their respective tents and slept.

Day 4 (April 29)

PUT INTO PRACTICE: Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me – put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. – Phil. 4:9

It was already 5:30 in the morning when they all woke up. It’s gonna be a rush day to cover because the staffs have to depart before noon.

And since it’s the last day of the camp, most of the campers did not take a bath. It was time for them to pack their things. But before everything, it was a beautiful morning with the Word of God as Ptr. Angelo led the devotional. The Word was given to encourage the youth to preach the Gospel.

Campers have to pack everything because the tent must be dried and be kept for preparation for departure. While the campers were having their breakfast, staffs were already busy fixing and keeping all the camp gears.

Now is the time for giving of awards. Campers were glad and surprised with the awards given to them by the counselors. “I Love My Pag-asa!!” It’s time to give away the something they have prepared for their Pag-asa as well as their colors which highlighted the last day of the camp. Many secrets were revealed and many funny things happened also.

The day overwhelmed the campers so much that made them emotional because the staffs were to depart too. “Goodbye staffs,” said the campers.

God bless us all!!! Labaw sa Tanan?! Kay Kristo Sikat!!!!!!

Kinabuhing Buhi ’05:  Kini Akong Gipili

Balubal Elementary School

April 19-22

Day 1 (April 19): Continue to Live in Him

The day started right. CFC-CdeO staffs arrived first at Balubal Elementary School. “Kinabuhing Buhi: Kini Akong Gipili” is the theme of this camp. We prepared the campsite for the upcoming activities and ensured the camper’s safety. The campers arrived bunch after another. It was quite an overwhelming number. The registration started during lunch time and continued until the end of the day. When Ate Naisy, the assistant course leader, welcomed the campers, she also introduced the camp direstress, Ate Gangging , and the senior course leader, Kuya Dhodz. Then Kuya Dhodz oriented the campers about the camp – the survival tips, camp verse and song, off limits and other important matters. Other staffs were also introduced. Then the campers were flocked into 5 with some having 10, others 11 campers with an assigned counselor each having specific names: Mapadayunon, Minggamut, Malig-on, Makusganon and Mapasalamaton. Given some crayons, a cloth and a flagpole, the flock made their own flag and chose their flock leader and grub master. It was then followed with the trustwalk, dinner and routines. The evening fellowship followed. Everyone was exhausted yet wide awake for the night. From the session hall, we all went out to view a film entitled “Taghoy sa Dilim” undermining the use of prohibited drugs. Pastor Alex Montañano, a visiting pastor, gave a message of reminder then a message of reminder then said a prayer of salvation. From there, we all had our family circle around the campfire. Then the counselors, though exhausted too, took charge of their flock prayer and reflection.

It was resting time already. But there were no enough tents for everybody. So the staffs looked for their own comfort at the staff’s quarter and let the campers sleep soundly at the tents. It was a long and tiresome day. But God is really great! He never let us go astray. Instead, He hovered us as we traveled from our homes to the campsite and even during all those activities.

Day 2 (April 20): Rooted and Built up in Him

The second day of the camp.

The campers woke up earlier than most of the staffs. While some of the campers prepared themselves for the day’s upcoming activities, others grouped together and sung praises to God. Well, it was indeed a good start to open this day.

Kuya Dhodz whistled for assemble. There, the mustard seeds were distributed to each campers and counselors.

“Kon masaligan ka sa gagmay’ng butang, masaligan ka usab sa dagku’ng butang,” explained Kuya Dhodz. (If you can be entrusted with small things, then you can also be entrusted with great things).

And as an act of accepting responsibility, they kept it where they know it will be safe. Then everyone was gathered at the session hall for the devotional which was led by Ate Gangging. Afterwards, they prepared their breakfast. That morning was consumed teaching them how to make some camp crafts like tripod.

During their lunch preparation, Kuya Dhodz with the other staffs decided to energize the campers. They were given few minutes to formulate a flock cheer; to build their unity and cooperation. The flock with the loudest cheer received merits. Everyone was so loud and busy that they left their flags unattended which allowed the few sneaky     guys to wander unnoticed and grab some. After all the fun and shouting, some flocks were disheartened upon knowing that they lost their flag. They all learned a lesson in a very hard and painful way: be on guard at all times!

After lunch, they enjoyed another game – United Nations – to awaken their nerves for a short lecture on orienteering. After the lecture, each flock had their Bible study while the camp specialists set another obstacle. It was a time-pressured obstacle and was divided into few parts. Upon undertaking each part, a camper got her foot injured. She was immediately given a proper first aid. And thank God! It did not worsened.

Everyone finished the obstacle. No one gave up. After the obstacle course, they cleaned themselves from all the mud and started cooking their food for dinner.

The evening fellowship. Ate Sheila, a visiting staff, shared God’s Word. She emphasized that the camp verse is the heart of Paul’s letter to the Colossians and that it too directly speaks to us now in our times.

At the family chain, Ate Naisy and Ate Gangging recapped what had transpired the whole day. The night was closed with a prayer.

Day 3(April 21): Strengthened in the Faith

The campers welcomed this day with overflowing gratefulness. They had their devotional with their counselors. Right after that, the counselors prepared their breakfast while the campers had their stretching. They jogged outside the campsite for few minutes. Everyone was excited for the activities ahead.

Everything’s ready for the hiking. Each flock, with their baon, left the campsite with few staffs accompanying them. The paths we all took were rocky, steep and crooked. We always have to ensure that we were on solid ground for our own safety. Yet, the landscape kept us going. The scenery was worth the perspiration we had. Then, we reached a river. The current was strong enough to flood away a person. So with a rope anchored on tree at both ends of the riverbank, everyone crossed onto the other side safely. We walked a few more meters and then reached the site.

We were all filled with much awe for the safe journey and for the amazing creation we saw. Each flock looked for a place where they can have lunch and Bible study. We all enjoyed the refreshing atmosphere of the place.

The camp specialists headed by Kuya Tata looked for a rappel site. But there was no safe site to be found. So we had the plan B – GAMES! Nobody felt sleepy amidst it all. Then to test their resourcefulness and creativity, each flock were asked to make their own boat. And the race had begun. They had so much fun for they took a bath at the river.

After all the refreshing activity, we went back, taking another route. Snacks were distributed at the campsite. There were presentations during the talent’s night. Each flock composed a poem and presented it as a rap song. The Barr family, our black American visitors, offered some songs and words of encouragement.

The day ended peacefully.

Day 4 (April 24): Overflowing with Thankfulness

Today is the 4th and last day of this camp. Everybody woke up quite late. When Ate Naisy whistled for assemble, some campers were still asleep. But everyone has to wake up. Everyone was running to the tents, waking their still-asleep flockmates.

At the ground, Ate Eva led the devotional. It was about denying one’s self and letting God be God. And indeed, the message was a great awakening.

After breakfast, everyone, both campers and staffs, busied themselves cleaning and keeping all the tents and mess. Then we had a short fellowship.

The closing ceremony. The campers were given time to share their testimonies about the camp experience. Some campers grabbed the opportunity, stood in front and shared their victories. All of them said that they learned many new things at the camp especially on how to stand up for God. Then, the counselors distributed their awards. Everyone gave away their colors and pag-asa’s. We had our family chain and pictorials. The camp was officially closed with a prayer. Then batch by batch, campers were fetched by a jeepney. The campsite became silent; no more crunchy laughing nor ear-boring shouts.

“Kinabuhing Buhi 2005” ended very well with God’s help and guidance. It is our greatest prayer that they will continue to live rooted and built up in God’s word, strengthened and established in their faith in God because that’s what Kinabuhing Buhi is all about – a life pleasing and exalting God.

DCBC Stattion, Broadcast Avenue, Upper Ma-a, Shrine Hills, Matina, Davao City

PRE-CAMP

> 6 staffs from CdeO traveled by bus to Davao City noong April 17 ng hatinggabi: Ate Joy, Niner, Kuya Dhodz, Ardie, Stonwealth, and Steward.

We called Maam Tata, our contact person. And we did.

> Praise and Worship Live!

We found a very good spot for tent-pitching but we have to clean it very well. General cleaning for both the wet, dry and stinking things on the ground.

> After that tiring job, Kuya Roel asked two of the boys to buy food for lunch…the counselors ate with us.

> Counselors’ Orientation: Kuya Roel gathered all the counselors. There were 8: 4boys and 4 girls…staffs were introduced to them by names then they introduced themselves after: Ron, Dodong, Erik, Joy, Amie, Joe, and Mia. One got late – Mel.  Ate Niner told them the important roles they will play for the whole duration of the camp…introduced the camp song..gave out the BS materials…then a demo BS from them by pair.

> by 6pm, ate Eva and ate Gangging arrived…immediately introduced them to the counselors. Joe (1 of the female counselors) informed me that they already photocopied the BS material, each for every camper at ang perang ginamit ay galing sa registration na kanilang ibinigay. Uh-oh. Nag-usap sina ate gangging at ate Bridgette (wife of Ptr. Double uh-oh. Kailangan ba’ng kabahan?!  (♫♪ Ikaw akong Dios, Ikaw ang kusog♪♫)…a big NO! J tuloy pa rin!…precamp pa lang pero andami nang obstacles…the kitchen crew with pay, the 250 to 150 registration, even the travel from CDeO to Davao, and even from the campsite to the marketplace.

> may taping! It was a talkshow done by Ptr. RA at ng kanyang Mommy. Nagsidatingan ang kanilang mga church members; both the old and the young.

> there were already big tents on the 2nd floor. We occupied it. Rest for the night! Tomorrow is another day. C:

DAY 2: Invite and Confirm (Salvation)

John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”

♥Rise and shine!!! Kuya Roel whistled for wake-up call at 5am…headcount, nametag checking

♥Blindfold Obstacle Course…then reflection and devotional at the same time.

♥Personals while others are cooking…breakfast then one fellowship song led by Kuya Ardie : Lean on Me

♥ Love and Kindness flock’s flag were easily snatched from their hands. They redeemed it. Then, another flag snatching incident with the same flocks involved. They were too relaxed guarding it. It was a humbling experience for those two flocks who were so negligent with their flags. They were saddened by the sight of having others pay for their negligence. Lesson: Same with Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. We cannot just live a carefree life. We have to be very vigilant with our salvation; working it out with fear and trembling… From then on, the two flocks lived out what they’ve learned from that experience. Patience and Gentleness flock earned 1000pts. each.

♥ 1st game: Stewards of Egg.

Then, another task. Each flock was given 1 cartolina, pentel pen, pencil and crayons. They will make a picture of the creation and it must have 4 important parts. Each day they will add another part to it until it will become complete. So for the 2nd day, they are to make the 2 most important part of it.

♥ Cooked lunch. Kuya Roel gave them their night activity… Broadcasting (Headline, Sports, Business, Showbiz) on Luke 14:16-24…Tablesetting…Then chow time without sounds!!…Routines.

♥ Fellowship song led by Kuya Roel: ♪♫ I’m inside, outside, upward, downward, frontward, backward, rightward, leftward happy all the time (2x) Since Jesus came to me and wash away my sins, I’m inside, outside, upward, downward, frontward, backward, rightward, leftward happy all the time♪♫.

♥ BS 2: Invite & Confirm (Salvation)…then prep. for the time -pressured obstacle course.

♥ Time to start the full blast time-pressured obstacle course.

♥ Sequence: catch the billiard ball, island hopping, over the monkey bar, electric fence with option, the swinging bottles, fire building, through the mud, and untie the patience ball and stretch it and yell! Some of them had their flags stolen by the sneaky staffs while going through obstacle. J Each flock had their reflection and snacks after the whole course. They cleaned themselves after…cooked dinner while practicing for their night presentation.

♥ Dinner time!! Words like ‘yes’, ‘no’ (and its variations) and nodding is strictly prohibited. Staffs roam around asking the hungry campers just to make them say and do those forbidden words and actions. It was fun!

♥ Camp Puri le by the staffs…Word by Mr.RJ (Ptr.RA’s older brother) on facing God’s call in our lives. Do not run away.

♥ Presentations!!! à @ The Family Chain, Kuya Roel said his parting words to the campers. He’s going back to Luzon the following day.

♥ Lights off: 10:30pm

DAY 3: Access Granted (We are now a new creation in Christ)

2 Cor 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

* Rise and shine!!! Kuya Roel whistled for wake-up call at 5am…headcount, nametag checking

* Stretching led by Kuya Roel: 10 Mga Daliri J…flock devotional

* Cooked and ate breakfast. Instead of going somewhere for hiking, we had our rappelling inside the campsite. Kuya Dhodz introduced the gears used in it – the metals, ropeline and how to do the improvised harnessing. Female staffs assisted the female campers. Male campers were also assisted by the male staffs. I (Niner) had to go down first to break the nervousness among the campers especially among girls. It was nerve-racking. Then everyone went down smoothly except for that one girl who forgot her name when asked to shout it. Siya’y napaiyak dahil sa nerbyos. Her name’s Apple, the daughter of Ate Inday who was one of the kitchen staff.

* Rappelling ended around 10am.

* Lunch! Lunch! Lunch!…Night activity: Variety Show – Circus/Magic, Dance, Comedy Show, Puppet Show…It’s all about celebration.

* On Orienteering… It was my first time to teach how to read the compass. Nagkandarapa! It was so unorganized! But thanks to Kuya Dhodz who helped me out. ^_^ Naging okey din naman ang lahat. Learning new things for me.

* Kuya Roel already went home while the campers were huddled together by flock for the Orienteering Obstacle course. 4 set by color. Each flock was has to has to have a strategy on how they will find all the eggs hidden in every station, which contain words that are part of a puzzle. They have to gather all the eggs and form the puzzle. Each flock was tied altogether, even the navigator. So they have to be united and patient with each other. The first flock to finish the course with the shortest time will win.

* We saw the hardship of each flock member as they went running from one station to another. Others have to adjust the webbings tied around them just to let someone climb the tree, hoping to find the egg there. Some were complaining while others were silently tagging along with the rest of the gang. Just right after the whole flock finished the puzzle, a strong rain poured. It was already very late in the afternoon. The session hall was also busy. DCBC will be taping tonight. So the campers will be busy also preparing the set because they will be part of the taping. After the taping, our program will resume.

* The kitchen staffs also made some necessary adjustments. They cooked the dinner for all the campers. It was already 6pm pero hindi pa tumila ang ulan. Dinner was delayed. Kailangang mag-taping muna. It was a delight hearing them going through various changes within them through their experiences in this camp. Indeed, the Lord did His thing and is continually doing great things among these souls.

* Evangelist Amara was the speaker for that night. She is the youngest sister of Ptr. RA and Mr. RJ…a very bold 16-year old who shared about the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. She is an encouragement to her peers and even to us.

* After the Word, camp program went running again. Talent night!! It was an exuberant evening; a night of celebration because we have already gained access to an abundant life in Christ. The campers presented their variety show. The staffs were made guests during the magic show. Very talented young people! They even told us that the y use some of those tricks to evangelize.

* After a fun-filled night, white envelope and yellow papers were handed to each camper along with the 7 colors…instructions were given…Family chainà Counselors’ meeting while other campers helped out in pitching the tents for everybody. After pitching the tents inside the session hall, others decided to start writing their letter to Jesus.

* Lights Off: 11:30pm à a countdown to sleep. The campers rushed inside the tents. Campers who are still outside the tents will be given 500pts.demerit each. It was a noisy scene. Within 20 counts everyone was silently inside the tents. Good night!

DAY 4: Repost and Publish

Ephesians 5:1 “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children.”

Rise and shine!!! Wake-up call at 5am…headcount, nametag checking…camp thermometer by Ate Eva

Devotional/BS 4: Repost and Publish

1st task for the day: finish their Picture puzzle. Each flock member must understand their work. Reporting will be done randomly.

After their devotional, they cooked their breakfast. Grub masters were reminded to clean their kitchen utensils after breakfast as clean as possible and return it to the kitchen. Flock leaders were told to tell their members to prepare the things they wore during the first day of the camp. Just prepare the t-shirt and the pants they wore. Then, we let them view their very first picture. We told them to check whether the persons in the picture are still around. They did not have a clue that the task ahead is more than that. The Counselors were also reminded about the character awards.

Breakfast time! For the first time, the flag of Kindness flock was snatched by Kuya Dhodz. Uh-oh. Additional task. We have to do something to return it. The whole flock reacted violently because it was, as they said, unjust. Anyhow, everybody was so busy doing their tasks; from routines to emptying their tents. They also prepared their letters to Jesus, colors and Pag-asa. The staffs were also getting busy in keeping our things. We have to vacate the place before lunch time. We also prepared special awards.

Closing Ceremony: the staffs redeemed the flag of Kindness flock. We have to return to the campers what is rightfully theirs, with the reminder to guard their salvation and identity in Christ with all their life. 1 fellowship song…then each flock presented their complete picture puzzle on creation. The results were fascinating. They did an incredible job with visual art. Most of those who were randomly called to represent their flock in reporting their work were those who belong to the silent committee. The highlight for his day: Repost and Publish! The campers were asked to get the things that were asked for them to prepare – the ones they wore the first day of the camp. Others had already given their used clothings to their parents who regularly visit the camp. But still, the task is set. They are to wear those dirty, used clothes. And they did. We gave them 30 seconds to pose…then freeze! We gave demerits to those who weren’t able to exactly copy the picture. But the Lord revealed something just in that very moment. Those stinking clothes are likened to our old, sinful selves. And if we want to repost and publish God’s likeness in our lives, we have to put off our old, stinking, sinful nature. The campers and staffs made a prophetic act. We put off our old, stinking selves. Hinubad namin ang marumi at mabahong damit. And everybody rejoiced! A very loud Type A clap unto the Lord!!

Awarding time: counselors were given the opportunity to thank their flocks and gave out the awards they had prepared for each of them. Counselors were also surprised that they each received an award from Ate Eva. we also gave out special awards like Stewardship award to Kindness flock for taking so much care with their flag and Submissive Award to Love flock for surrendering their cellphones since the first day; trustworthy award to Max, the cameraman who never lets go of his camera.

We had our final family chain. As I was saying our last words to the campers, one camper was sobbing. And the rest had their heads down. Parang walang gustong umuwi. Pero things here on Earth have limitations. Time limits our stay here. But for sure, how God moved in the lives of these young people will never cease; cannot be limited by time. Around 9am, SUSAMA 2011:Sumbanan ko si Kristo summer youth camp was officially ended. à Picture taking…all glory belongs to God alone!!

Leadership Training Camp 2004 Chronicle

IGC, Tipolohon

Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City

Precamp (December 21-23)

In preparation for the CFC Leadership Training Camp, all staff (Junior and Senior) were on their knees to pray and fast, seeking the will of the Lord. This is what we call the precamp phase. The camp pastor, Eva Alcampado, let us listen to a teaching tape which talked about servanthood. It was such an enlightening lesson for all of us, realizing that ministry is all about servanthood and it speaks about a great bulk of humility from the Lord to be able to serve others.

On the third day of prayer and fasting, all staffs united to do a “pahina” sfter break to clean up the camp site. It was such a day of warm fellowship among the staff as they made fun after work. The Lord sees that our hearts want His glory to be seen and there is such power and anointing as believers unite for a common goal and objective for the advancement of the Lord’s kingdom.

Day 1 (December 27)

It was such a busy day in the morning. Everything has to be finally set up: the hall, ground, decorations, etc. prior to the coming of the camp trainees. Trainees were still coming in the morning of 27th of December for registration.

Orientation and briefing started at 2:00pm with a total number of 25 participants. Tents were then pitched and the first blindfold obstacle set-up was prepared. Campers were then directed to undergo the first obstacle. Obviously, faces were too tired to move as they uneasily trudge the path with their eyes blinded. Discussion followed as they talked in their respective flock the significant meaning of the obstacle. It is comforting to know that they had indeed understood in spiritual terms the meaning of the rope they were clinging to hold, their course crawling on the wet ground under the row of benches. Some express the uncomfortable feeling of tiredness yet endured it because he did it for God. Others find the value of being united in the flock as they waited and cared for each other so that none will be lost.

One camper said that it’s really difficult to have obstacles but if you have the rope to hang on (representing Christ), you will be surely guided and will eventually reach the finish line of the difficulties (that sounds similar to our endurance as Christian in our fiercest trials and problems).

Every flock proceeded to have a Bible study entering their focus on the verse of the day (Romans 6:22).

At 5:30pm, the campers were altogether gathered to learn “Christian Camping” as distinctively distinguished from only ordinary camp. And done thing that is so delightful to all was that their mentor came all the way from Cavite. He is Kuya Rading Monzon who presently holds the position as CFC assistant chairman of the board.

Around 6pm, everybody enjoyed their supper. At 7:30pm, everyone heard the message about God’s calling to every person to work in his kingdom which was explained in full length by Mrs. Judy Limpot. Then they sang a song of commitment to the Lord. Finally, they ended their day doing the family circle with a campfire in their midst and the Camp Pastor concluded it with a prayer.

Day 2 (December 28)

Everybody get themselves ready for early morning devotion. The verse for the day is Philippians 4:13. Physical exercise followed to ensure body fitness for the day’s activities. Every flock then prepared  their breakfast by themselves and enjoyed their meal. Then they were assembled to receive their merits from the SCL. Kuya Rading proceeded on his short talk about Game Leading and explained the component activities as well as the organizational structure of CFC camp.

Around 10:30am, the campers went through the time-pressured obstacles namely monkey bridge, island hopping, snake crawl with a combination of camp crafts like tripod making, tent pitching and keeping and finally, firebuilding using only 3 pieces of match sticks. They call it the burning bush on Mount Moriah.

By the way, there were only 3 flocks: Samuel, Moses and Gideon. And each flock, as their usual routine, did their preparation for lunch, learning to cook by themselves. It’s a good thing that each flock by this time has set up their tripods for utensil storage and safe keeping. They learn fast and good.

After lunch, the campers gathered inside the session hall to hear the lecture about duties and responsibilities of each CFC staff and personnel which was discussed in detail by Ate Gangging, the Camp Director. She later talked about Christian Education; that covers the topics on strategies, methodologies of teaching but here, it is different because it is “Christian” education as distinguished from the secular one. The subject on budgeting followed as it was expertly taught by Donna Mae Cucharo, one of the staff and is indeed a skilled and knowledgeable about finances.

After the long hours of lecture, the flocks assembled outside to once receive their awards, merits and demerits. First place was taken by Gideon flock for their successful assembling of the puzzle. Best in nook was garnered by Samuel. Best in Flag went to Gideon as they made necessary improvement on it. Best in routines was gladly received by Moses. Winner on United Nations game was Moses. Tent pitching first place award went to Samuel. On obstacle, Samuel got first and also in tripod making. Best in fire building was gained by Gideon.

After the distribution of awards, demonstration on how to put on the harness for rappelling and zip lining followed. Challenging as it was that camper felt their nerves wracked as they mount on the mango tree and let themselves fall with the line of rope to hang on. It was a sort of an extra challenge and without question, they were truly challenged. Every flock proceeded to their reflection, focusing their discussion on the Bible character named to their flock and tackling on how they had become God’s chosen leader.

Worship service, seasoned with delightful songs started at 7pm. The message was all about the life of Joseph the dreamer and his call to leadership. Once again, all the campers were challenged to rededicate their lives to the Lord, casting all idols they hold. The day was concluded doing a family circle and an earnest prayer by flock.

Day 3 (December 29)

Another day had come but by this time it was wholly different because everybody would be doing something new in this camp training. Of course, the day began with a loving devotion to the Lord followed with the undertaking of the usual morning routines such as doing physical exercise, cleaning, taking breakfast and the most exhilarating was the fun games. The Bible is true to its saying that how good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity for there is the presence and joy of the Lord.

Everybody got ready for the new challenge of the day and it is dubbed as the Amazing Race. Why Amazing Race? Because every flock will be competing. They were given equal amount of money which was the budgeted amount for their lunch and dinner. They have to go to Cogon Market and buy the things they needed for lunch and dinner. And right after that, they were to go to Bethany Beach House at Bayabas, CDO. The counselors and the staffs that were with them must only watch over them and were not allowed to tell where it was and even on how to get to the said location. The flock which will arrive first will be declared the winner of the race. This activity was properly designed to inculcate the value of responsibility, trust, unity and camaraderie among the campers. It was expected that they will learn how to manage things/resources that were entrusted to them and to listen and follow directions exactly as it was given to them.

Moses flock was the first to arrive at the site and immediately pitched their tents. The other two flocks followed a couple of minutes accompanied by their counselors and their assigned staffs. It was heartbreaking  to hear that Naisy’s cellphone had been snatched from her bag. But as she was speaking in their group, holding Bible study, it seems that she was not badly shaken. She reasoned that cellphone is not that so important. Leaders that has to be raised up are much more of value because material things such as cellphone can be replaced and will soon perish. But leaders are much more needed to carry on leading men in the ways of the Lord. What a mighty spirit she has!

Each flock then cooked their own food for lunch. Skill on giving first aid was expertly taught by Ryan. Skills on knot tying, lashing, anchoring and harnessing were taught by Tata.

At night, Pastor Digamon delivered a powerful message on sheep and shepherd relationship. He pointed out that Jesus is our Chief Shepherd and there are undershepherds He designated for every flock to watch and guard the flock because they are helpless and weak. And the challenge to accept the call to become undershepherds was laid in front of everyone because the Master Shepherd needs more workers.

And the day transpired doing the usual family circle. The activities of the day were all concluded by Ate Gangging, the Camp Director. So many things were gleaned and learned today and the good Lord, in His perfect knowledge and wisdom, let us know these things because He sees everyone as leaders in the making.

Day 4 (December 30)

The day came for the conclusion of the whole leadership training. The trainees packed their things up, ready for dismissal. Then a program followed giving the trainees to exhibit what they’ve learned in camp planning and budgeting. The most enjoyable part was the giving of Pag-asa to each other and the awarding of certificates to each leader. The most awaited part was the declaration of the champion of the overall activities and obstacles. Everything ended in the formation of a family circle concluding the events with words of gratitude and praise to our God for the success of the whole event.

Unto Him be all the glory and praise who loves all men to see His great love and salvation.
